Load your outdoor gear in a spacious Honda Passport or Pilot and head down the road to these fantastic state parks near Medina, OH for an outdoor adventure. Spend time in nature, hiking, biking, paddling, boating, and fishing, and see an abundance of bird and animal life. 

1. Findley State Park

The heavily wooded Findley State Park offers 838 acres of extraordinary outdoor experiences. Explore the park on 16 miles of hiking and biking trails that wind through the pine and hardwood forests and connect to the statewide Buckeye Trail. Paddle and boat on the scenic 93-acre lake, and wet your hook to reel in largemouth bass, bluegill, and crappie.

You can play disc golf on two 18-hole golf courses, stick your toes in the sand and soak up the sun on the 435-foot swimming beach, and pitch a tent at a full hookup or primitive site in the large wooded campground.

Findley State Park is 22.3 miles from Medina at 25381 State Route 58 in Wellington. The park is open every day from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., the swimming beach from dawn to dusk, and the campground 24 hours a day. 

2. Portage Lakes State Park

The 411-acre Portage Lakes State Park is the ultimate destination in the region to enjoy outdoor activities. Discover the unique plantlife, such as the Tamarack trees scattered throughout the park, wetlands alive with waterfowl and shorebirds, and the beautiful beech and maple forests, home to raccoons, skunks, red foxes, beavers, muskrats, and white-tailed deer on nine scenic trails.

The park’s eight lakes, each with a boat ramp, are teeming with largemouth bass, bullhead, pickerel, channel catfish, panfish, and carp, and Turkeyfoot Lake has a 900-foot swimming beach. There’s also an archery range with block targets ranging from 10 to 50 yards and an 18-hole disc golf course.

Portage Lake State Park is 25.6 miles away at 5031 Manchester Road in Akron. The park is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, and the swimming beach is open from sunrise to sunset. 

3. Tinkers Creek State Park

The breathtaking Tinkers Creek State Park, a haven for nature lovers, especially birdwatchers, stretches over 355 acres of untouched swamps and marshlands covered in white oak, alder, buttonbush, and cattail. The wetlands attract many bird species, including bald eagles, shore birds, and nesting migrants.

During the spring and fall migrations, the marshes provide food and shelter to thousands of waterfowl, including mallards, wood ducks, and geese. Birdwatchers often catch glimpses of herons, bitterns, woodcocks, gallinules, snipes, and rails along the short trail. The park also has an archery range and a pond for fishing and boating.

Tinkers Creek State Park is at 10303 Aurora Hudson Road in Streetsboro, 36.3 miles from Medina, and is open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
