day trips near Medina, OH

Go on exciting day trips in a Honda Civic, Passport, or Pilot from Medina, OH, and explore all the fabulous destinations along the way. Stroll along the banks of Chippewa Lake, hike to the spectacular 60-foot Brandywine Falls, and go behind the scenes at The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.

1. Chippewa Lake

The 325-acre Chippewa Lake is one of Ohio’s largest natural inland lakes. It’s a hidden gem with beautiful scenery and a touch of nostalgia. Visitors can unwind in beautiful, peaceful surroundings along the tree-lined shores, observe bird and animal life, and paddle and fish from the banks. The glacial lake was once a popular destination for weekend getaways and picnics.

The remnants of an abandoned amusement park dating back to 1878 can still be seen through the tall grass. In its heyday, there was a hotel, overnight cottages, and entertainment on the shores of the lake. The Medina County Park District recently started with plans to restore the fabled Ferris Wheel. In the meantime, enjoy the peaceful tranquility and stunning views over the sparkling water of the lake.

Chippawa Lake is at 6364 Deerview Lane in Medina and is open all year round.

Take a short 16-mile drive to magnificent  Cuyahoga Valley National Park to explore the 320 million years old sandstone gulches, over 100 spectacular waterfalls, and marshes teeming with wildlife on miles of multi-purpose trails.
