Honda continues to pioneer the auto market when it comes to alternative-fueled vehicles with the impending release of the 2012 Honda Civic Natural Gas. According to Japanese business magazine, Nikkei, the decision to sell the natural gas variant of the popular Civic throughout the U.S., "is in response to increased interest in green cars and fuel efficient cars."1
Originally only available in California, Honda released the CNG Civic in New York, Utah and Oklahoma last year. Having been consistently ranked the cleanest car in America by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE), it's no surprise that sales of this super-green vehicle have grown steadily. Honda plans to release the Civic CNG at 200 dealerships in 38 states in the next month, including Rick Roush Honda in Medina, OH.
Under the hood, the natural gas Civic is powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine matted to a five-speed automatic transmission. This might sound familiar, as it's a modified version of the motor usually found in the Honda Civic. And, because of its great fuel-efficiency (31-mpg average), in some states, the CNG qualifies for carpool travel, regardless of occupancy.
With the upcoming release, Honda has just announced pricing, with the base model MSRP coming in at $26,155. And, by next month, drivers in the Cleveland, OH area will be able to view the next-gen Civic Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) at 200 dealerships nationwide, including Rick Roush Honda.
