Honda Unveils Two Sports Concepts

Honda has continued to impress critics and drivers with eco-friendly and reliable vehicles, but there's more to this Japanese automaker than meets the eye. Back in the 90s, they gave us a glimpse into their daring side with the Acura branded NSX, and rumor has it, it's coming back.

But it's certainly not the only exciting new concept from Honda this year. At the Tokyo Auto Show, they unveiled their new EV-STER concept: a small, rear-wheel-drive, electric, sports car. Rumor has it that this was only the beginning, and in January at the Detroit Motor Show, Honda will debut what they're calling a "Super Sports" concept. What's more? It will be a model that is designed as a successor to the NSX.

Why? Well, according to Honda Design Manager Yoshikazu Kigoshi, "We need a halo car...and this is a decision that's come from Ito-san down."1 He went on to confirm that the new NSX will get the revolutionary SH-AWD torque vectoring system. This system uses independent electric motors for each of the rear wheels in combination with the direct-injection 3.5-liter V6 engine and 40-hp electric motor hybrid system create a vehicle with unbelievable handling and cornering.

It's really not a far reach, though. Honda has already proven that they're more than capable of producing a satisfying sport experience with models like the 2012 Honda CR-Z hybrid. That said, we're pretty excited to see the next sports concepts from the automaker in January.
